N E W S
As
I mentioned a few weeks back, I have started
hosting a weekly show on entrepreneurship on Talk Radio 702
and 567
CAPETALK,
every Wednesday night from 20h30-21h00
GMT+1.
You can tune in from anywhere in the world on either site. Join us!
The band's first gig went really well and we will be playing live again soon. I will let
you know when.
In this edition I am including two emails I received recently, which
articulate different experiences of what it is to be on the journey of
being alive. They are
followed by something I wrote on happiness.

Dear
Robin
Great
to hear from you and to know that you are happy. Quite an achievement!
<> On
my side I've been having the most frustrating few months. Nothing seems
to be
working out. Everything I try to do is thwarted by some or other factor.
<>It
really does take a lot out of us to keep going on our own - to not have
a boss
getting us up every morning, to not have the motivation of a set
salary.
>>
<>>Sometimes
I just feel like throwing in the towel and going off to some isolated
island to eat bananas all day! It just seems such a great struggle
for very
little in the end.
Besides
the intrinsic value of what we do in our business, there
would be
really no reason to work because what we get out of it financially at
this
moment isn't enough for the bills we have.
I've
been having this conversation for the longest time and I have no idea
how much
longer we are going to keep going.
Wish
I could sing - things would be a lot easier. Talking of which - how's
the band
going? Have you decided on a name?

Hi Robin
Amanda
King (WesBank, Port Shepstone) here! Just thought I'd share with you
that since returning from your last workshop I have not looked back
for a moment!
I was convinced that life couldn't get any better, only to realise that
every day is a new beginning, a new opportunity. I am now
finding myself more and more, since I am now actively thinking about it.
I realise that you
create your own destiny and
happiness. At work I am so
busy, writing a new record this month, and every day rushes by.
I love my family, my job
and friends and realise each day how much I have to be thankful for.
Thank you for making me
THINK about it again.

Wheeler, 8 June 2006
Most of us mistake pleasure for happiness and are in constant search of
feeling good. But that brings with it pain in equal measure, because
pleasure is on the surface, the circumference of our being, and the
circumference of our being is ruled by duality.
On the surface, life is about opposites, and true happiness cannot be
found
there. Pleasure can be found fleetingly, but it always carries its
shadow. At the centre, though, life is not a duality. If we can access
our centre,
we can access a much deeper feeling of joy.
That joy is our true nature, our very essence. It doesn't go up or
down, or have an opposite, it simply is. In the absence of all we have
adopted from the outside, it rises up and fills us with what it really
means to be alive.
We are raised as social beings and, as such, understand ourselves in
terms of all we have been told over and over from the outside. These
messages are not only superficial, they are contradictory, which leaves
us feeling empty and confused.
To be our true selves, we need to be rebellious,
to follow our inner truth despite the pressures of the world around us.
This leads us to an infinite well of joy and creativity.
We still live in a world of duality, though. By understanding this as
the nature of things, we stop pursuing the one pole and running from
its opposite, and, thus, free ourselves from the vicious circle.
We
find our centre and then begin to really enjoy the duality. Like a
wheel, the circumference goes
round and the centre stays still.
We also, in sinking into our deeper selves, free ourselves from time.
Time is a function of the mind, which obsesses with either the past or
the future. The present, however, is timeless, and mindless. If we live
in the present, the emptiness and problems fade, and
the
fullness rises to fill us.
From there we can live each moment totally, without fear or regret. We
can love, create, contribute and do business to the full. We can be
ourselves totally, where true and untouchable happiness permeates our
being and flows outwards to others like ripples on a lake.
So be yourself, totally. Be like a musician playing live on stage, free
from time to think, giving your all in union with
the moment, and the music of life.
Forget the past and the future, live totally now. Be yourself
completely, in the present. The future will follow from that and take
care of
itself.

my thoughts for this edition. All the best to you.
