The band is playing live this weekend, Saturday 29 July, at
the top of the Carlton in downtown Johannesburg. We are going by the
name of Films
For The Next Century and are going to lengths to make the show a
must-see.
We will have top-notch sound, plus visuals, and there will be awesome views
of the city by
night from the top of the tallest building in Africa. Click here
for the official invitation, print it out and bring it along with a
group of friends and join us.
I have received a number of enquiries from readers wanting to start up newsletters like this one. If you
would like internet services, speak to the guy who helps
me, David, at: www.newwebmaster.co.za or info@newwebmaster.co.za.
He provides excellent service for
excellent rates.
David will be joining me to give advice on setting up and running a website for
your business on the radio this Wednesday 26 July.
Tune in at 20h30 GMT
+1.
In this edition I am including an email I received after a radio show I
did on Selling For Entrepreneurs,
followed by reflections on being your true self.

Dear
Robin
Last night, on 702, I so related to your
emphasis that one doesn't have to be other than you are when selling
your product. As you know, I don't appear to be the sales type at
all but I manage in my own way.
New strengths come into play when your life is on the line! I now love
that part of my job.
I also believe that whether you land the business or not is inherently
there already. During negotiations, you can tell whether the person is
keen or whether they are losing interest. I used to try and fight it if
they were fading but now I let it go.
Even
with my teaching I am as I am. Some say I should be more strict but
strict doesn't work for me. Your philosophy of "be yourself" has
empowered me.
Thanks Robin.

Wheeler, 4 June - 17 July 2006
One of the
most difficult things to do in life is to be happy. It
sounds
crazy, but in a crazy world, it's true.
Happiness
should be easy, it is our true nature, but it is very rare. It is rare
to find
a happy person, and it is rare for any of us to be happy.
One of the reasons
for this is that society thrives on misery. Misery makes the
world go
round. Misery sells (have you watched the news?). Misery gives everyone
something to worry and complain
about.
Misery makes you into someone, whereas happiness leaves
you
with no problems, no
anguish, no struggle, no
fight, and no identity as you know it. Happiness leaves you with pure
enjoyment of the moment, but no ego.
We
have lost touch with our true nature and substituted for it our egos,
our false
selves. These false selves thrive on unhappiness. Egos need to fight to
exist.
They need resistance to distinguish themselves. They are about tension
and
separation.
Happiness is about connection,
with our true selves and with all else. But, because we mistake
ourselves for our egos, we find ourselves feeling separate from
existence.
We feel isolated and, of course, miserable.
So we fight more, which
strengthens
the ego and the separation. We fight to fix it, but it stays an endless
process of pain
and alienation
from ourselves.
When we are
happy, our egos are always absent. In moments of joy, our false selves
are not there. The ego with all it’s issues
and
struggles subsides and our true nature is allowed to come forward.
When happy, we merge with existence.
To be happy, we have to cease to
be our false selves, which leaves
us with
a bit of a crisis. Who are we without our problems, our misery?
Our egos were taught
to us by our community as we grew up, and, in the
absence of any support for our true selves, we adopted them, along with
all the
unhappiness they brought along. To stop identifying with them, we will
go through a process of deep, personal rediscovery.
This is our birthright! The
trick is to follow your inner guide, your own truth, keep taking
risks, and do what you want to with your life.

"Don't let them
tell you who you are is not enough.
Don't let them tell you that happiness can't be found."
George Michael - An Easier
Affair*
* This is George Michael's new
single, which is all about being happy and, like a number of his songs,
about being himself for a living. You can watch the video here.
