Last weekend, I bumped a friend I was at primary school with some 30 years ago, whom I have wanted to see again for some time. I had looked him up with no luck and then, quite unexpectedly, he walked right past me in a mall! The first point here, then, is that things happen as and when they should, so make an effort but don't push, just be open and ready. He had been following my articles in the newspapers but I hadn't heard from him for decades, so it was interesting to hear him say that that he "is facing now the changes I made 12 years ago when starting BEntrepreneurING." I told him that I am still facing many of the same challenges I faced then, and that it is not a single decision one makes but a way of life. When it comes down to it, I said, much of what is at the centre of my life is what I was dealing with back when we were children. Underneath the pile of things we do each day is a central theme... being ourselves. Who we are is the root of every choice and decision we make, the core of the jobs we do and how we do them. Who we are is what we are always finding out, every step of the way. Who we are is the often the most difficult thing to stand for. Giving up who we are is the highest price to pay. If one is on a spiritual path of being authentic in our work, who we are is where we start and where we end up. The main insight is that being ourselves in a world of external pressures is the biggest, ongoing fight we face, and at the same time, it is not a fight at all. It is an act of love. Being yourself is about trust, connectedness and patience. It is a state of acceptance. It is the most loving, creative, peaceful, fascinating and fulfilling way to be. "Buffaloes don’t make parties to revolutionize the world, to change buffaloes into super-buffaloes, to make buffaloes religious. No animal is concerned at all with human ideas. And they must all be laughing: ’What has happened to you? Why can’t you be just yourself as you are? What is the need to be somebody else?'" Osho _____________________________________ Media
