Finding Your Grooveby Robin
Wheeler As a speaker,
trainer, writer, and entrepreneur, I am often in the role of an expert.
But being myself for a living is equally about being a learner. Lately,
I have been learning something I have always wanted to do - play the
drums. It has been my
lifelong dream to make music. I have built a business, and written
books, but my music has remained unmade. A while ago, I decided to
change that. Within days of
finally feeling ready, I saw an advertisement that said “Let’s make
some noise!” and I made the call. I was nervous to take the step but
Brendan Doran, the drum teacher, was the right choice and I was over
the threshold. Since then I
have been discovering a new world. Drumming has opened me to exciting
possibilities and helped balance my busy life. I am still a beginner,
but I am learning and finding it very rewarding. “For many of
my students, and for me personally, drumming has become integral part
of our self expression, motivation, confidence and trust,” says
Brendan. “It puts you in touch with your individual rhythm, behind the
drum kit, in your personal life, and in your business.” “If we feel
out of touch with ourselves and our surroundings, it means our skills
are not yet synchronised with our potential. The drum was the first
musical instrument invented, and is the best way to reconnect with our
nature. The power is in your hands!” Brendan is an
intuitive, patient and talented teacher who is helping me find my way
through the challenges and into the joy of making music. Being myself
for a living now includes playing the drums, and my life and business
are better for it. Step out of your comfort zone into what you have always wanted. Make the move and find your groove. You’ve got the music in you, so make some noise!
