The  Top Ten Ways To
Be Yourself For A Living

by Robin Wheeler

To be yourself for a living, you need a business that enables you to do three things: express, develop and discover who you are; be of service to the world; and, make money.

Here are ten universal yet adaptable ways to build such a business.

1. Speaking

This takes time to establish but pays directly and indirectly in the long run.

2. Teaching

In whatever form, like corporate training, public workshops or teleclasses, this is a deeply rewarding, archetypal vocation with a crucial social and commercial function.

3. Coaching

Mentoring and counselling one-to-one and, thus, growing in yourself (at an hourly rate) is a stimulating, humbling business that is as old as time and still coming into fashion.

 4. Writing

This brand-building, product-producing, money-making and sanity-maintaining practice becomes a way of life when you’re being yourself for a living. You do it for magazines, newspapers, websites, ezines and, frankly, the sheer pleasure.

5. Publishing Books

Books are journeys of self-discovery that become credential-strengthening, business-boosting commodities that you can sell online and through national then global book stores, as well as at your talks and workshops.

6. Art

Integrate who you are with what you do through music, design, (industrial) theatre, or whatever you’re good at and enjoy, and the world needs.

7. The Media

Television, film and radio live on inspiration, there’s money out there looking to be invested, billions of global villagers are hungry for real connection, and you’ve got all those ideas…

8. Managing

Running your enterprise, developing the people you work with, and building mutually beneficial relationships with your community of “clients” are all being yourself for a living.

9. Your unique thing

This is in everything you do and, in time, becomes a business in itself.

10. An ambitious, ingenious, enterprising and visionary combination of the above and more.
